GUWAHATI: In a case involving Maoist activity in the state of Assam, the national investigation agency (NIA) has filed an additional charge sheet against an accused.

The NIA has filed a supplementary charge sheet against West Bengal resident Samrat Chakraborty alias Nirman alias Nilkamal Sikdar.

According to information provided to the NIA, Chakraborty has been charged with crimes under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The NIA said that its investigations had proven the defendant to be a current CPI-Maoist member.

The CPI(Maoist) leadership plotted to increase its organizational structure and operational base in Assam, according to the NIA, and he was a part of that plan.

He resided at numerous hideouts in the Cachar district of Assam with the purpose of strengthening and expanding the CPI(Maoist) organization, and he served as a conduit between the leadership of the CPI(Maoist) organization in other regions, it was further stated.

The CPI Maoist has reportedly been attempting to spread its organizational roots throughout Assam in general and the northeast in particular, according to past statements made by the Assam police. Arun Kr. Bhattacharjee has been tasked with taking command of Assam and the North Eastern Region thanks to significant financial inflows from the Eastern Regional Bureau.

Former member of the MCC Special Committee until 2004, Arun Kr Bhattacharjee is currently a member of the CPI (Maoist) Central Committee.

He was discovered to be in possession of other incriminating items as well as money totaling Rs. 3, 60,000. This money was the proceeds of terrorism. An organization named in the first schedule of the UA (P) Act, 1967" is the CPI (Maoist).

In addition to establishing a core committee in Assam to aid across the organization's command and control, the police said they also planned to establish a red corridor in the Northeast states so they could wage war in concert with other groups with similar ideologies.
