GUWAHATI: The dead body of another person who was a passenger on that ill-fated boat which met with an accident near Nimati Ghat in Assam's Jorhat district last week was found in the Brahmaputra in lower Majuli on Tuesday.
The deceased man Bikramjit Baruah, who was found wearing a black shirt, was a doctor by profession. A team of officials reached the spot in Bhekeri Chapoli of Majuli after getting the information that a body has been spotted by people. The identification of the body was done in the presence of top level officials of Majuli district.
Baruah, who belonged from Jorhat district, was an ENT specialist. He is survived by his father, wife, two children and many other relatives.
A dead body of a woman was found on the bank of the Brahmaputra in Devisinghi Ghat in Tezpur on Sunday. The deceased woman, whose age was about 25 to 30 years, is suspected to be a victim of the Nimati Ghat boat tragedy which had taken place last week. The woman's identification could not be done, as per last reports available. Meanwhile, six persons were arrested on Saturday regarding the ferry mishap after chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma directed the Jorhat police to register criminal cases against people who are found responsible for the tragic incident.
Another dead body of a man, who was also a victim of the ferry tragedy, was found on September 11 (Saturday). Indreswar Borah of Lakhimpur was cremated in the premises of his house on the same day. He was a resident of Pahumora Kanduwa Pothar (Madhavpur) Village within Lakhimpur district.
