Nine suspected smuggled cattle recovered at Halem

BISWANATH CHARIALI: As many as nine suspected smuggled cattle were recovered by Village Defense Party (VDP) personnel at Sakomatha village under Halem Police Station in Biswanath district on Saturday night. The personnel also seized a Tata Mobile vehicle bearing no AS 32 C0146 along with its driver Muzahidul Islam (33) of Niz Baghmari village under Gingia Police Station while his two accomplices from Kharupetia managed to flee.

According to reports, a bull fell from the vehicle and started to scream after it got injured in the wee hours. Hearing the hue and cry, a section of villagers came out of their homes and caught the suspected smugglers red-handed. Police rushed to the spot while the VDP apprehended the driver and also took possession of the vehicle along with the cattle. The cattle were reportedly being taken to Kharupetia in Darrang district. The cattle have been sheltered at Sri Sri Ganga Goushala at Kowripathar by police while the further investigation is underway.
