DHUBRI: Nineteen terracotta artisans were extended financial assistance of Rs. 1.5 lakh each under Mukhya Mantri Thalua Udyag Bikash Achani at the Asharikandi Terracotta cluster of village of Dhubri district on Sunday.

The cheques of first installment of Rs 50,000 were distributed at a function held at the terracotta cluster of villages at Asharikandi among the 19 artisans selected by the district-level committee for construction of the clay burning furnaces. Speaking in the inaugural function, Dhubri district BJP president Dr. Debamoy Sanyal assured full cooperation from the government for widening the entrance from PWD road, eviction of encroachment along the road side and development of infrastructure as per national standard.

While addressing the meeting, director of Necard, Binoy Bhattacharjee said that Asharikandi could be a source of inspiration for village industries. "Asharikandi artisans created history by making 150 busts of Gandhiji in terracotta style of art in clay on October 2, and today, 19 artisans have received Rs 50,000 each as first installment for construction of kilns out of the sanctioned amount Rs. 150,000.00 per unit. Rest of the amount will also be released subject to progress of works," Bhattacharjee added.

The meeting was also addressed by general manager of Dhubri District Industry and Commerce Centre, Nirmal Kumar Roy, former State vice-president of BJP, Bimal Oswal and others.
