SILCHAR: It was an honour for the National Institute of Technology to name a newly constructed state of the art auditorium after the legendary Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika, a distinguished iconic personality of the country. Commemorating the 10th death anniversary of the legendary musician and poet, the newly built auditorium located inside the Bharat Ratna Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Learning Resource Centre was virtually inaugurated by Dr Rajdeep Roy MP as chief-guest of the event.

The location of the new auditorium inside APJ Abdul Kalam Resource Centre makes it more significant as a central place of learning, dedicated to the memory of two illustrious sons of the nation. One is an unparallel ever inspiring musician and singer and the other a great scientist of all time. It is like the perfect blending of science and art converging into one and inspiration for the new generation.

On this most eventful occasion were present Prof Sivaji Bandopadhyay, Director NIT, Dr Rajdeep Roy MP, Prof R D Misra, Professor and Faculty in Charge Library, Prof N B Dev Choudhury, Registrar, HODs, Dean, faculty staff and students. In his welcome address, Prof Sivaji Bandopadhyay welcomed the chief guest and other dignitaries and spoke about the influence and impact of Bhupen Hazarika on the lives of people across the country. He shared his immense pleasure with the audience to name the auditorium after the versatile personality Bhupen Hazarika.

Dr Rajdeep Roy inaugurated the auditorium and addressing the gathering described Dr Bhupen Hazarika as a bard like any other legendary figures who have become immortal and ever memorable. His life and work have taught us to create a better and inclusive society of universal brotherhood and oneness. His impact on social and cultural life is acknowledged across the continents.

Dr Rajdeep Roy also spoke about the NIT and called it as a centre of academic excellence and its contributions to the society and the nation in various domains are quite appreciative. He advised the students not to confine themselves within the prescribed syllabus but go beyond for 'exploration of the unexplored.'
