NIT Silchar rusticates 4 students and fines 12 others

SILCHAR: NIT Silchar rusticated four students for two semesters as well as expelled them from the hostel during this time as they were found guilty of assaulting three mess workers mercilessly. Apart from these four, twelve more students were fined Rs 10,000 each as part of their punishment.

On July 27, a group of students were seen beating up three mess workers at Boys' Hostel 4, and the video went viral. After one month of internal investigation, the NIT authority announced stern action against these students on Saturday. The four students, who were rusticated for two semesters, are Saurab Kumar Meena, Himanshu, Rohit Kumar Meena, and Md. Jubair Mahmud Protim. Students facing fines are Raghuvendra Singh, Supratik Saha, Rajan Kumar Raj, Mirajul Islam Sayem, Jyotishka Bhattacharjee, Jyotirmoy Kalita, Pappu Mondal, Abhijit Doley, Kangkan Jyoti Kalita, Rohit Nandi, Abhinav Goswami, and Saurav Jyoti Saikia.

The students assaulted the mess workers, alleging they stole mobile phones, but the internal investigation found the allegation baseless.
