MANGALDAI: In the month of August 2020, Darrang district qualified for the second rank among the 112 aspirational districts of the country and NITI Ayog provided an allocation of Rs. 10 crore to Darrang district.

Presently, Darrang district holds the number 1 rank among the aspirational districts of the north-eastern region. NITI Ayog provides additional allocation to districts securing ranks through the challenge methods under the Aspirational Districts Programme and on the basis of the performance in the month of January and February of 2021, Darrang district has secured a good rank in the overall delta and has become entitled to receive an additional allocation of Rs. 1 crore. Similarly, Udalguri district has also been entitled to receive an additional allocation of Rs. 7 crore. Additionally, Barpeta district has also secured a good rank in Health and Nutrition and has become entitled to receive an additional allocation of Rs. 3 crore.

Talking to The Sentinel on Tuesday afternoon in his office chamber, Deputy Commissioner Dilip Kumar Borah attributed this achievement to the team spirit of all the officials and employees of the departments concerned of the district. "Chief Executive Officer of National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog), Amitabh Kant vide a letter on the eve of Rongali Bihu on April 13, informed the Chief Secretary of Assam, Jishnu Baruah about this additional allocation of funds to Darrang district and also congratulated the district teams. He also termed this achievement as the excellent performance of the District Collectors or the Deputy Commissioners of the respective districts," said Deputy Commissioner Dilip Kumar Borah.

Meanwhile, senior citizens Hareswar Sarma and Hari Chandra Sarma, media person Shrawan Kumar Jha, ideal farmers Habib Rahman and Dhruba Jyoti Saikia, artist Pranjal Sarma, cultural activist Dr Mrinmoy Kumar Nath, social activist Shekhar Mazumdar and various organizations of the district have appreciated the initiative of the Deputy Commissioner and congratulated the entire 'Team Darrang' led by Deputy Commissioner Dilip Kumar Borah.
