LAKHIMPUR: A crucial meeting in view of ensuring comprehensive cleanliness and hygienic environment and maintaining road safety in North Lakhimpur town as well as other municipal areas of the district, was held under the auspices North Lakhimpur Municipal Board (NLMB) on Monday in its conference hall in the presence of the members of the Chambers of Commerce, presidents and secretaries of the Bazaar Committees and Pragati, a non-governmental organization (NGO).
The meeting commenced with Pradip Kumar Dwivedi, Chief Executive Officer of NLMB, in the chair. In the meeting, Dwivedi called upon the owners of the roadside commercial institutions of North Lakhimpur town to install close circuit cameras in the front of their commercial institutions.
Notably, the NLMB has initiated various steps to keep the town clean. As a part of such initiatives, NLMB has already started door-to-door garbage collection process and this operation is in progress at all 14 wards since last year July under NLMB area. NLMB has already suggested to segregate the bio-degradable and non-biodegradable waste and has put major emphasis on informing and educating the residents of the town through mike announcement and door-to-door persuasion to collect the garbage in two separate bins (Blue-Dry Waste, Green- Wet Waste). But despite several rounds of persuasion, the waste matters are thrown away here and there and deposited at Thakurbari, in front of State Bank of India, Biswa Cinema Hall, Rajasthan Hotel, Gurudwar, LIC Office and Hazarika Nursing Home.
In the meeting, CEO of the NLMB declared that legal action under the provisions of Municipal Act would be initiated against those commercial institutions and individuals who were involved in the deposition of the waste matters in those places violating the instructions issued from the NLMB. Moreover, their names and address with photograph will be published in the newspapers.
According to the resolution taken in the meeting, the officers and employees of the NLMB will inspect various places under the municipal area in the morning from 5 am to 8 am and at night from 8 pm to 11pm. During this period of inspection, if any commercial institutions or individuals are found depositing the waste matters in front of their complex, they will have to show cause and pay fines.
In the meeting, Pradip Kumar Dwivedi informed that fine had already been charged from those shops which were not complying with the norms of using bins. On the other hand, NLMB has initiated moves to install Digital Traffic Point at five spots of the town in order to control the traffic congestion. All tenders of NLMB will be available in the website henceforward.
Moreover, a City Sanitation Task Force Committee will be constituted in order to ensure the cleanliness and hygienic environment in North Lakhimpur town. In this connection, the CEO of the NLMB has appealed to people to extend their full support in making North Lakhimpur a clean town and to make life better for everyone.
