LAKHIMPUR: A meeting of the general assembly of the North Lakhimpur Press Club (NLPC), the common forum of the headquarter journalists of Lakhimpur district, was held at press club office on Thursday.
The meeting commenced with the president Sailen Baruah in the chair while secretary Karuna Krishna Nath explained the objective of the meeting. One-minute silence was observed to pay tribute to renowned cultural figure Jiban Borah, popular doctor Hemanta Kumar Dutta (Lakhimpur), artist Anup Hazarika (Tezpur) and journalist Parag Bhuyan (Kakopothar). The club expressed its condolences to the bereaved families of the deceased persons.
In the meeting, detailed discussion was held on the organizational strength of the club, renewal of the membership as well as the inclusion of new members and the current crucial problems of the district. NLPC took several resolutions on the discussed topics of the meeting which was held in the presence of almost all the members. As per resolution taken, the meeting extended the present term of the executive body of the club, which was to end in December, till February next year due to some unavoidable circumstances.
On the other hand, NLPC took resolution to continue its role of rendering service for the betterment of the common people, resolving burning problems of the district through professional activities as well as social services like the previous years. The meeting decided to hold the next session of the press club body in the third week of February and to observe the death anniversary of martyr journalist TankeswarDutta on February 18 by organizing an inter-district carom competition.
