GUWAHATI: The Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said that pensions would be distributed fast and in a hassle-free manner.

CM Sarma today held a review meeting with Directorate of Pension, and took stock of pendency of pension cases and disbursal rate.

Later, Sarma took to his Facebook and wrote, "Pensions should be disbursed fast and in a hassle-free manner. I reiterated this in a review with the Directorate of Pension and took stock of the pendency of pension cases and disbursal rate. GoA is working towards a system of providing pension on day of retirement to govt employees. To make pension disbursement system paperless & swift, directed Assam Electronics Dvpt Corp Ltd (AMTRON) to align Kritagyata & AMTRON pension portals & link with treasury offices. Directorate of Pension to aim at disposal of 1500 pension cases per month, from now onwards".

Earlier, the state government has taken the decision to increase reservation for divyangans (differently-abled) in case of jobs. The reservation has been increased from three percent to four per cent.

It may be mentioned that various organisations and groups have been over the years pressing for fulfillment of various demands related to the welfare of differently-abled / specially-abled people. The Ujoni Asom Protibondhi Suraksha Parishad (UAPSP) had earlier this month submitted a memorandum to State Finance and Social Welfare Minister, Ajanta Neog demanding resolution of various problems. In the memorandum, president of the organisation, Biswabijoy Bora said that differently-able persons had been demanding resolution of their long-pending demands, but the government did not take necessary action. They demanded to identify the fraud differently-abled government employees and to appoint eligible differently-abled persons in government service. The identity cards of differently-abled persons should be re-examined by experienced doctors and government benefits should be provided to deserving beneficiaries.
