GUWAHATI:

Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam, has now implemented the policy for all State Government Employees.

In a notification, the Chief Minister instructed all Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDO) to guarantee that "No dues payable against Electricity Bill of APDCL."

A certificate stating "No dues payable against APDCL's Electricity Bill" will be sent to all workers prior to the processing of salaries or salary bills on or before June 30, 2021.

Earlier this week, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that power theft by a segment of the state's consumers costs the APDCL about 300 crores each month. This results in an increase in power tariffs, which affects honest power consumers.

In other developments, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has asked all opposition MLAs to join the ruling party and work together for the sake of the people. This follows the announcement by Congress MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi, the lawmaker from Mariani seat, that he would leave the grand old party and join the BJP in the coming days.

"What will they do in the opposition benches for five years? I would rather say they should join us. Since we are working for the welfare of people irrespective of caste, creed, and religion, I appeal to them (opposition members) to join us and work together for the public," said Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during a press meet.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said today that any woman who took out loans from microfinance organisations would be disqualified for the state government's forgiveness plan. Only truly impoverished women among the loanees, according to the Chief Minister, would be eligible for government assistance.

We will only waive off the loan of actual poor women. Others should not expect the benefit. A woman from a well-to-do family will not get the waiver. Those, who are the owners of luxurious cars, also would not get the loan waiver. If such a woman borrower's husband is a government employee, then she will also not receive the opportunity. Our goal is to uplift the economic condition of the actual poor," said the Assam CM.
