Dibrugarh: “There is no provision in our Constitution to confer citizenship on the basis of religion. Hindu is the only religion which supports and respects all religion,” said former Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Sarkar.
He was addressing his party cadres and members of other organizations at a meeting held here at the Laxminath Bezbaruah Bhavan of Axam Xahitya Xabha. He spoke in detail about the prevailing socio-economic and political development in the country. Sarkar was of the opinion that the country was passing through an acute economic crisis. The poor, Sarkar said, were becoming poorer due to the high prices of almost every essential item. He further stated that the present government had dedicated all efforts to look after the welfare of the rich and corporate class.
Coming down heavily on the Modi government and its anti-poor policy, Sarkar, during his overnight stay in Dibrugarh on his way to Dhakuakhana next morning, cautioned the people about a gloomy future because of increasing unemployment and steep hike of petrol, diesel and cooking gas prices.
