North Assam Divisional Commissioner Dr. M Angamuthu satisfied with poll preparedness

Tezpur: North Assam Divisional Commissioner Dr. M Angamuthu reviewed the poll preparations in Tezpur election district in a meeting held at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Tuesday evening in the presence of District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner of Sonitpur, Narsing Pawar, and DIGP (Nothern Range) Lachit Baruah and other senior district administration officials.

The NAD Commissioner reviewed the law-and-order situation in the district and discussed various security aspects in details with Superintendent of Police, Kumar Sanjit Krishna and Additional SP Numal Mahatta.

Reviewing the facilities that are being made available for physically challenged persons, the NAD Commissioner, laying stress on inclusive voting, asked the officials to ensure that all such persons willing to exercise their franchise were given adequate support through NGOs and necessary access to polling stations.

The Sonitpur district administration has taken steps to identify all such persons and will provide 50 wheel chairs to enable them to cast their vote on polling day. Moreover, ballot paper in Braille script will be made available for visually impaired voters. NAD Commissioner Dr Angamuthu also reviewed the SVEEP activities and awareness programmes on EVM/VVPAT functioning undertaken in the district and he was informed that so far 880 villages in the district had been covered and a total of 1,56,340 mock votes (which is 17 per cent of the population of the district) had been cast till date. SVEEP activities will go on till April 8 in the district.
