MANGALDAI: North Kamrup Forest Division with its headquarters at Rangiya has taken up a unique initiative to plant saplings in the schools under the division.

As per the instruction of the Divisional Forest Officer of North Kamrup Division Sunnydeo Choudhury, the Mangaldai Forest Beat Office has made a target to plant the fruit yielding saplings in 12 schools in the first phase. On Thursday, Forest Beat Officer Khagen Kalita of Mangaldai Forest Beat planted 21 saplings at Baigormari Dakhin Chuba LP School in a remote village near Kharupetia town. Government permit holder timber traders of Mangaldai extended a helping hand by providing the required fencing for the protection of the saplings. The teachers and students and the forest staff also took part in the plantation.

Taking part in the plantation programme, Forest Beat Officer Khagen Kalita made a fervent appeal to the students to take utmost care of the saplings. Citing the recent scenario in New Delhi arising out of heavy pollution which has devastated normal life, he laid stress on planting more trees to maintain the green cover in the greater interest not only of human lives, but also for all the living beings of the planet.
