LAKHIMPUR: The 4th North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) Book Fair, which commenced on March 21 at the college premises, concluded with grand success and a colourful cultural programme on Monday night. The eight-day long event received an inspiring response from book lovers, writers coming from several districts of the State.

The agenda of the concluding day started with a popular talk and an interactive session in the morning. In the programme, Dr Dipankar Chetia delivered a lecture on 'Science and Non-Science' while Professor Dr. Kakali Bhuyan delivered the lecture on 'Time, Space and Objects'. It was followed by a quiz competition on books and writers among the students.

In the competition, Tulika Tamuli and Nabakanta Baruah (Assamese Department) secured first prize, Mahananda Saikia, Trishna Chutia (Assamese Department) secured second prize while Homen Baruah and Archana Gita Saikia (Political Science) secured the third prize. A book named 'Educare', published by the Department of Education of the college targeting the students, was released. This book, edited by Dr. Binod Chetia, was released by Jiten Sarmah, the retired Principal of Lakhimpur Commerce College. It was followed by the prize distribution ceremony wherein the prizes were given away to the winners of various competitions organized on the occasion of the book fair.

At the same event, Principal Dr. Biman Chandra Chetia presented 4 bundles of books, worth Rs 4000 each, to the 4 hostels of the college. In the evening, Assamese Department of the college organized a colourful cultural event. In the same event, 'Smritir Safura', the annual publication of the Assamese Department was released.

On the other hand, a series of competitive events on extemporary poem writing, speech and extemporary speech was organized on Sunday. It was followed by a Kabi Sanmilan under the management of Dr. Ratul Kumar Lahon in the evening. The programme was chaired by noted reciter Gagan Borah. Noted poet Dr. Pranay Phukan, attended the event as guest of honour, wherein at least 30 poets like Pankaj Sabhapandit, Ankur Ranjan Phukan and many others recited their self-composed poems. Books worth rupees around ten lakh were sold at the book fair, informed Arabinda Rajkhowa, the coordinator of the event.
