LAKHIMPUR: After the stunning victory in Assam Municipal Board Election, 2022, ruling party BJP and its alliance Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) constituted the North Lakhimpur Municipal Board on Saturday. In this connection, a special programme was held in the Lakhimpur district BJP office in the presence of the winner Ward Commissioners of the party.

As per a reliable source, social worker Nibedita Dutta, who was elected from Ward No. 3(A), was selected as the Chairperson of the headquarter civic body of Lakhimpur district while Pranjal Pratim Dutta, the Ward Commissioner of Ward No 1, was selected as the Vice-Chairperson. The list in this regard with the consent of other Ward Commissioner was already submitted to the State Committee president of the party.

Notably, the post of chairperson of the North Lakhimpur Municipal Board has been reserved for women. A total of 6 female Ward Commissioners representing the ruling party, out of 11 reserved seats of the civic body, have been elected in the recent election. Momtaz Begum was elected from Ward No. 2(A) while Nibedita Dutta was elected from Ward No. 3(A). Similarly, Jyoti Das was elected from Ward No. 5(B) while Mina Das Saha was elected from Ward No. 9. On the other hand, Krishna Rani Dhar Sen and Dipika Gogoi were elected from Ward No. 10 and Ward No. 14(A) respectively. Among them, social worker Nibedita Dutta, retired subject teacher Mina Das Saha and St. Mary's School teacher Krishna Rani Dhar Sen were in the march for the post of chairperson for the civic. Finally, Nibedita Dutta was selected for the post after the other aspirants had given their support to her withdrawing their aspirations. The newly constituted board of the civic body will sit from April 1.
