SILCHAR: MLA Dipayan Chakraborty has urged the Northeast Frontier Railway to set up relief camps at Silchar Railway Station and its platforms in view of floods across the Silchar assembly constituency. MLA Dipayan, via a letter to the general manager, NF Railway, Guwahati on Saturday, informed about the flood situation in the Silchar assembly constituency because of heavy rainfall recently. He said torrential rains have swelled up the Barak River resulting in an unprecedented havoc that has never been seen before in the history of Silchar constituency. Many major dykes in the constituency have been breached because of the rapidly rising floodwaters. The highest recorded water level of the Barak River is 21.84. which was recorded in the year 1989. This 33 year old record is very likely to be broken, the MLA said, stated a press release.
