DIBRUGARH: Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Rameswar Teli on Wednesday said that the Northeast Half Marathon would be organized at the Bogibeel bridge in Dibrugarh on October 29 to showcase the longest rail-cum-road bridge of India in the international platform.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday here, Teli said, “Under PM Narendra Modi’s Fit India movement, the half marathon will be organized in Dibrugarh and the venue is the Bogibeel bridge. Through this event, the area will get wider promotion in the international arena. NF Railways is organizing this event and the Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas is the associating partner of the event.”
“This half marathon is the next step of fulfilling PM Narendra Modi’s vision of the Fit India Movement. The event will also promote our local talents and sportspersons,” Teli said.
The half-marathon will be organized on October 29 in three categories- 21.1 km, 10 km and 5 km. Captain Rahul Sudesh Bali, curator NE Half Marathon said, “The main objective of the half-marathon is to showcase the Bogibeel bridge in the world platform. It will be organized in three categories. The half-marathon will go a long way in nurturing and empowering the sportspersons of the region, enabling them to perform at various national and international platforms and bring glory to India.”
He said, “This mega event will generate euphoria about Dibrugarh, Assam and the whole of Northeast India. More than 3,000 runners from India and across the world are expected to participate in the half-marathon. Earlier, we had organized the NE Half Marathon in Darjeeling and Guwahati. In Guwahati, we have got 7,000 participants. We are positive and hopeful for the event in Dibrugarh and expect more participants. The event will help in growth of the area in terms of tourism and business. Bogibeel is one of the iconic bridges built over the Brahmaputra River and the half-marathon will showcase the beauty of the area.”
