Noted Assamese Painter Neel Pawan Baruah Passes Away in GMCH

GUWAHATI : Popular artist Neel Pawan Baruah breathed his last in the Guwahati Medical College Hospital today.

The noted Assamese artist passes away at 3:15 PM on Friday at the age of 86 after a prolonged illness. He was born on June 1, 1936

 He completed his education in Glazed Pottery from Shanti Niketan and was known to use simple day-to-day objects as his canvas.

Apart from painting, he was an expert in pottery, poetry, mask making and reviving the art in the famed Brindabani Bastra. He was not attached to any particular style and was known to work spontaneously.

Known as a non-conformist, Neel Pawan Baruah was the founder of the Assam Fine Arts & Craft Society.

He was also the husband of Dipalli Borthakur, who was popularly known as the nightingale of Assam.
