Noted Bodo actor Prajit Narzary arrested on rape charge

KOKRAJHAR: Well-known Bodo cine comedian and villain Prajit Narzary, who is popularly known as ‘Thaklai’, was arrested by Assam Police on Thursday evening. The popular character artiste of Bodo film Thaklai was arrested on charges of rape.

He was arrested in connection with the Kokrajhar Police Station Case No 501/22 U/S 363, IPC added sec. 370(I) IV/370 (A) (1), 376 (3) IPC r/w 6 of POCSO Act. He was accused of raping a minor girl and had been on run since the last few months. He was produced before the court in Kokrajhar on Friday.

Hailing from Narabari near Kokrajhar town, Narzary has been serving in Assam Police and was actively associated with the Bodo film industry. He is not only an actor but also a producer. Black belt holder in Kung-Fu martial arts, Narzary was also an action director of some Bodo action films. He played negative and comic roles in many Bodo films and thus became very popular not only in the Bodoland region and Assam but also in West Bengal and Nepal. His performance in Nepal to Bodoland and Onnai films as a comedian and villain received huge applause.

Father of a child, Narzary was not only associated with the film industry but he was also the chief technical coach of Khomlainai Federation of India (KFI). He was an active member of Bodoland Indigenous Games Association (BIGA) for the past 12 years.
