Noted educationist Balendranath Sarma remembered in Nagaon

NAGAON: On the occasion of the 25th death anniversary of noted educationist, national awardee, as well as founder of the leading newspapers' distributor of the middle Assam districts - Balendranath Sarma, the family members of the educationist, organized a commemoration programme here at the auditorium of Nagaon Sangskritik Prakalpa near Nagaon Nehrubali field.

Noted scholar of Sankari tradition and culture Naren Kalita, Assamese short storyteller Apurba Sarma, litterateur Upendra Borkatoki, senior journalists - Monuj Kr Goswami, Naresh Kalita and Prakash Mahanta graced the occasion as invitees and also spoke on the dedicative life and unparalleled contributions of Balendranath Sarma towards the society of the greater Nagaon.

During the programme, a book penned on the life and works of Balendranath Sarma titled 'Balendranath Sarma Jiban aru Karma' was also ceremonially released by noted Assamese short story teller and Sahitya Akademi awardee professor Apurba Sarma. In his speech, Apurba Sarma said that Balendranath Sarma created a studious atmosphere and also advised people to go through the newspapers for which he had to lead a rough and tough time till the end of his life.

Rupak Sarma, local MLA and the only son of Balendranath Sarma while delivering the welcome address, he said that he lost his father when he was just 25 years old and he tried to go ahead with his ideology. During the programme, MLA Rupak Sarma said trust in the name of Lt Balendranath Sarma will be instituted soon.
