Noted journalist Kanthi Saikia passes away in Goreswar

Kanthi Saikia (76), a resident of Pubpar Lokra village near Gashbari on the outskirts of Kamrup (R) district and a noted journalist, social worker and former assistant teacher of Brindaban HS School, passed away on Thursday noon at his residence due to old-age ailments.

GORESWAR: Kanthi Saikia (76), a resident of Pubpar Lokra village near Gashbari on the outskirts of Kamrup (R) district and a noted journalist, social worker and former assistant teacher of Brindaban HS School, passed away on Thursday noon at his residence due to old-age ailments. He was a local correspondent of an English daily from Goreswar for a long period of about 26 years. He was also awarded the Kamala Saikia Award. He was the founder president of Goreswar Press Club. He was a sincere and devoted teacher. He was loved and respected by all sections of people due to his amicable behavior. He had retired as an assistant teacher from Brindaban High School and served the area as a good social worker. He was associated with many social institutions. He also wrote many poems. After his retirement, he took charge as Principal of Gashbari Adarsha Jatiya Bidyalay, then Bidyajyoti Niketon of Gashbari in Kamrup district. He is survived by two sons, three daughters and a host of relatives.
