Noted Assamese writer, Sahitya Akademi Awardee Purobi Bormudoi breathed her last in the early hours on Monday. The litterateur had long been suffering from illness.

The literary prowess is well-known for her distinctive literary achievements which can be counted in the form of famous works like "Eta Sapor Palayan" (The escape of a serpant). Her novels 'Gajraj' (Elephant), "Prem aru Bondhutva" (Love and Friendship), and "Param Pujania" (the most revered). She has numerous novels and literary compositions to add to her forte.

The Sahitya Akademi Awardee began her writing career only in her late teens when she bagged a second prize in an all-Assam story writing competition for her story "Eta Sapor Palayan" (The escape of a serpant). However, her subsequent works 'Gajraj' (Elephant), "Prem aru Bondhutva" and "Param Pujania" earned her instant fame.

Late Bormudoi also was a recipient of many literary applauds including the famous Lekhika Bota (Authoress Award) which is being conferred by the Sadou Asom Lekhika Samaroh. She had also won the Prabia Saikia Sahitya Bota.

She was widely loved and admired by the contemporary and subsequent litterateurs of the state and region. Her death has now left an unfilled vacuum in the Assamese literary world.
