NAGAON: Noted social activist, senior citizen and newspaper distributor of Nagaon and octogenarian Mukut Chandra Bhuyan breathed his last at a private hospital on Thursday afternoon here after a brief illness. He is 84.

Born in 1939, he studied at Shillong in Meghalaya and went to Pune where he completed his degree in film editing at Film and Television Institute of India, Pune in Maharashtra during the 60s. Noted legendary individuals of Indian film industry like filmmaker Adur Gopal Krishnan, Subhash Ghai, Moni Koyl and comedian Ashranee were the classmates of Mukut Chandra Bhuyan.

Instead of being involved in the Indian film industry in Mumbai, unmarried Bhuyan immediately came back to his home town Nagaon soon after completing his degree in film editing and served The Assam Tribune group for over decades till his death. He was well associated for long with social work and served the society of the small town here until his demise. He was admitted in a private hospital here on July 28 last by a host of his close associates and subsequently he was shifted to another local private hospital in the town where he was found infected by Japanese Encephalitis (JE).

His demise has cast a pall of gloom across the small town here. Several local organizations and dignitaries like local MLA Rupak Sarma, local MP Pradyut Bordoloi, former AGP minister Girindra Kr Boruah, former Nagoan MLA Dr Durlav Chamua, former minister Rokibul Hussain etc. condoled his demise and paid floral tribute to him. His last rites were carried out at Nagaon Amulapatty public crematorium.
