GUWAHATI: A notorious drug trafficker, who dared Assam Police was injured in an encounter in Dhurbri last night.

The Dhubri police arrested one Rahul Prasad, a drug peddler, from his home along with two others, on Sunday.

After his arrest, Prasad dared the police and said that he would continue trafficking in the police station in front of the local reporters.

During the night the drug peddler, allegedly, tried to flee from lawful police custody. He tried to attack the police when the latter wanted to stop him. During the encounter, he received bullet injuries in a leg.

The drug peddler, on the otherhand, claimed he is a member of the Bajrang Dal.

Earlier, acting on a tip-off, Deputy Superintendent of Police Dipankar Dutta Lahkar of Dhubri Special Branch conducted a raid in the residence of Rahul Prasad and seized a large number of contraband tablets, along with some other objectionable substances.

According to police, accused Rahul has been involved in distributing illegal tablets for a long time, and this is the third time Rahul and Rakesh have been apprehended in connection with supplying addictive substances.

Police later registered a case against Rahul Prasad with previous case references (1) Dhubri P.S. C/no 1652/20 u/s 22(C) NDPS Act. (2)Dhubri PS C/no 366/21 U/s 22(C) NDPS Act .

In January 2020, Rahul Prasad was arrested by Dhubri Police for trying to destabilize the social harmony of the Dhubri district.
