GUWAHATI: NRL observed 'Swachhata Pakhwada' 2020 from July 1 to July 15 with several innovative programmes to raise awareness about cleanliness. This fortnight long campaign is spearheaded under Swachh Bharat Mission of Govt. of India and organized as per guidelines issued by Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Ministry of Jal Shakti. Considering the ongoing global pandemic of COVID-19, more emphasis has been given on conducting cleanliness & sanitisation drive as well as generation of awareness through digital platforms like social media, website and organising webinars on theme of 'Swachhata' this year.
On July 1, Swachhata Pledge was taken by employees of NRL through VC. Mass cleanliness drives were conducted in the neighbouring areas of NRL's Refinery and Marketing Terminal in Siliguri. Cleanliness and sanitisation drives covered market areas such as Telgaram, Kanaighat, Labanghat, Purabangla, Doigrung and Letekujan. Moreover, some other community places like Ponka Public Health Centre, Govt. offices & school premises were also sanitized during the period. Reusable facemasks, soaps, sanitizers and PPEs were distributed amongst Safai Sathis of Golaghat Municipal Board and workers of nearby market areas.
Innovative campaigns were carried out through NRL social media platforms including discouraging the use of single use plastic, which was received well by netizens.
Two webinars were held on theme of Swachhata during the fortnight. The first one held on July 8 was on the theme- Reducing the use of single use plastic. Dr Kanak Haloi, Prof & Head of National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj and Debajit Chakrabarty, District IEC Consultant, PHED, Golaghat addressed the webinar.
The second webinar was held on July 13 on the theme Solid Waste Management. GMC (Guwahati Municipal Corporation) Commissioner Devajyoti Hazarika, addressed the webinar where he shared innovative initiatives undertaken by GMC in handling solid waste. Innovator and entrepreneur Sanjib Sabha Pandit also shared his innovative ideas on the subject.
NRL has been providing sanitation facilities and installed solar powered water pump systems and pure drinking water with UV technology in the educational institutes of Golaghat district as a part of continuous project under Swachh Vidyalaya Abhiyan, stated a press release.
