LAKHIMPUR: The seven-day long National Service Scheme (NSS) Special Village Camping Programme organized by NSS Unit of Lakhimpur Girls’ College at Bogolijan village, the adopted village of the college, under North Lakhimpur subdivision came to a successful conclusion.
The camp was organized under the guidance of Dr Mahmuda Begum, Assistant Professor of Physics-cum-NSS Programme Officer of Lakhimpur Girls’ College and the theme of the camp was health and hygiene, child marriage, education, superstitious beliefs and environmental awareness. The camp was inaugurated on April 5 by Dr Surajit Bhuyan, Principal, Lakhimpur Girls’ College, at Bogolijan High School in the presence of IQAC co-ordinator and faculty members of the college, headmaster of the school, Gaon Pradhan, Gaon Panchayat members, faculty members and students of the school, villagers of the Bogolijan and NSS volunteers.
During the camp, voluntary blood donation camp, free of cost health check-up camp, women health awareness meeting, an awareness meeting on prevention of child marriage and domestic violence, staging of awareness drama, awareness rally on child marriage and domestic violence was organized by the NSS volunteers.
Plantation drive, awareness programme on Swachha Bharat Abhiyan, no-use of plastic awareness, superstitious beliefs, classroom teaching by NSS volunteers, different competitions among school students etc. were also the parts of the week-long camp. During the course of the camp, the NSS Volunteers along with the Programme Officer had conducted a door-to-door survey on youths of the village who are still away from formal education and regular employment. Apart from the in-house resource persons of the college, a galaxy of notable figures from various fields had participated as resource persons in the week-long events of the village camping programme.
