KOKRAJHAR: Numaligargh Refinery Limited (NRL) on Thursday handed over four garbage carrying vehicles to Kokrajhar Municipal Board (KMB) under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. The vehicles were handed over to KMB at a function held at the premises of KMB in Kokrajhar town.

The General Manager (Pipeline) of NRL, SK Hussain formally handed over the key of garbage carrying vehicles to chairperson of KMB-Pratibha Brahma in the presence of BTC EM Ranjit Basumatary.

In his brief speech as chief guest, the EM of BTC Ranjit Basumatary said the government of BTR led by Pramod Boro was looking for cleanliness in Kokrajhar town but there are certain quarters who are playing politics over this clean initiative. He said the KMB had received two awards for cleanliness and behind this achievement the credit should go to cleaners and staff along with the chairperson for their hard work. He hoped that the KMB would play an important role in achieving the mission of transforming Kokrajhar, the ‘City of Peace’.

In her welcome address, thechairperson of KMB, Pratibha Brahma said, “We are working hard for a clean and hygienic Kokrajhar and vehicles are required for door-to-door collection of garbage in Kokrajhar town.” She also said there was much work left to make citizens of Kokrajhar town aware about managing garbage for a clean and hygienic Kokrajhar.

SK Hussain, GM of NRL (Pipeline),said the NRL was established in 1993 in Golaghat district as part of clauses of the Assam Accord, which became operational in 2000. He said the production capacity of NRL was 3 Million Metric Tons (MMT) but expansion of project 9 MMT is going on. He also said at least 130 km pipeline of NRL passes through BTC districts and there are 9 stations for maintenance in the region.
