Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) contributes Rs 25 crore to PM CARES Fund

Numaligarh: Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) along with other public sector oil companies have contributed over Rs 1,000 crore to the Prime Minister CARES Fund to help in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.

While NRL made a contribution of Rs 25 crore, ONGC was the top contributor with Rs 300 crore, followed by IOC chipping in Rs 225 crore. Privatization-bound Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL) provided Rs 175 crore, while Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL) chipped in Rs 120 crore. Petronet LNG Ltd gave Rs 100 crore, gas utility GAIL Rs 50 crore and Oil India Ltd another Rs 38 crore.

“As the world faces one of the biggest crises, public sector oil companies have risen magnificently to the occasion. Apart from its many initiatives to help combat COVID-19, NRL has contributed Rs 25 crore to the Prime Minister CARES Fund,” stated NRL in its official Facebook page.

To contain the rapid spread of coronavirus across the country and the fast increasing number of positive cases, NRL has been taking many initiatives. NRL started sprinkling disinfectants at many public places in the nearby areas with the help of fire tenders of the organization.

In the second phase, NRL sprayed disinfects on the streets, sidewalks and other surfaces of public places at Purabangla and Doigrung on Tuesday. Both the places have residents numbering more than 10,000 and are also hub of a large number of educational institutes, offices and busy market places.

Talking to The Sentinel, chief manager (CSR) Rajkamal Saikia said, “We will stick to our commitment to stand with the masses in the fight against the COVID-19 and more places will be covered in the next phases of disinfecting. At this time we are in shortage of all the chemicals required for the disinfecting drives due to halt of the supply chain, but we are trying our best to meet with the demand. We will cover more public places as much as possible in the next phases.”

The Deputy-General Manager, PR of NRL, Mintu Kr. Handique stated, “We have taken an initiative of distribution of protection masks to the needy people and certain steps have been taken in this regard. We have provided basic training with instructors and samples to selected local tailors and have also provided required materials to them. Currently a programme of making protection masks is underway and we are producing 500 protection masks a day. We have set a target of reaching to 10,000 protection masks in the next 15 days.” On Wednesday, NRL distributed packet lunch foods to all the truck drivers and helpers of LPG and POL at the marketing terminal.
