DHUBRI: Nutritional food items were distributed among the mothers of slum areas of Dhubri town as part of Poshan Maah activities held on the occasion of the 21st death anniversary of Dr Pannalal Oswal at Dhubri Lions Club auditorium by the Dr. Pannalal Oswal Memorial Committee on Wednesday.
Addressing a counselling session for mothers, Dr Tapas Mazumdar spoke at a length on how to take care of children and what was the right food at various stages of their age. "I advise all the lactating mothers to feed their babies only and only breast milk till the age of six months and switch over to semi-solid foods along with breast milk till the age of 2 years. This practice will give proper nutrition to the children with immunity. You should also avoid all packet food available in the market," Dr Mazumdar said advised.
Executive officer of Dhubri Municipal Board and also a physician, Dr Neha Yadav explained various kinds of green vegetables and fruits locally available which are enriched with proteins, minerals and vitamins and are highly beneficial and far better than packed food.
The memorial meeting was also attended and addressed by president of Dhubri Terapanth Committee, Sushil Bengani, veteran classical singer Nanda Neogi and retired senior officer, Rajani Deka while objective of the meeting was explained by the secretary general of the memorial committee, Bimal Oswal who outlined the activities carried out and services rendered over the last 21 years since inception of the memorial committee in 2000.
As part of the programme, puja items and fruits for langar were distributed and also handed over to priests and management committee at Mahamaya Dham, Mahamaya Snan Ghat, 25 Hath Kali Mandir at Bogribari, Kali Mandir at Chataguri and Kali Mandir near Gauripur on September 20.
The memorial committee also distributed food items, soaps, toothpaste, masks and sanitizers among the mothers while maintaining social distancing at Lions Club while iron-folic acid tablets supplied by the health department were also distributed among the mothers.
At the onset of programme, earthen lamp was lit before the portrait of Dr Oswal while the portrait was garlanded by veteran classical singer Nanda Neogi followed by offering of floral tribute.
