A social worker and retired teacher, Nagen Hazarika passed away on June 1 due to post COVID complexities at his residence at Lehugaon, Biswanath Chariali. He was 92. Born at Lehugaon, Hazarika participated in the Quit India Movement, 1942 as a volunteer. He retired from Chariali Girls' Higher Secondary School in 1988 as an assistant teacher. Being a social worker, Hazarika was associated with several social organizations, including Axam Xahitya Xabha, All Assam Surya Borah One Act Play Competition and Srimanta Shankerdev Sangha. Hazarika leaves behind his wife, eminent writer Swarna Hazarika, two sons, two daughters and a host of relatives. His demise was widely mourned.
