Purna Dhar Deori (96) passed away peacefully at 12.15 am on April 20 at his residence in Chowkidinghee, Dibrugarh. One of the significant pillars of society, he is survived by his four daughters and a son, and grandchildren. Born on January 20, 1926, he completed his matriculation from Dibrugarh Government Boys School and Higher Secondary from Cotton College, Guwahati. Thereafter, he joined Jadavpur Engineering College in the Mechanical Branch and he was a gold medalist. He was the first person to become an engineer in the Deori community.

He started his career as an engineer in Oil India Limited and then for a brief period he contributed to Dibrugarh Town Planning also. Later, he joined the Industries and Commerce department and retired as Additional Director, Industries. A born leader and with brilliant academic records, his exceptional qualities were truly inspiring for youngsters in the society.
