GAURISAGAR: Nripen Gogoi, noted educationist, social worker, former president of Teok Kaliapani Anchalik Panchayat passed away on Friday night. He was 72. He was a resident of Khanmukh Seuj Nagar here.

According to family sources, he had been suffering from cardiac disorder for a long time. He was admitted to the Hayat Hospital in Guwahati. Although he fell better after the installation of the pacemaker yet on July 16, he suffered a brain stroke. After his condition did not show any improvement, his family members decided to bring him to his home. However, he breathed his last on in Nagaon.

Gogoi had started his career as a teacher and joined Khanamukh ME school in 1972. He became the headmaster of the school in 1987 and superannuated in 2009. He was honoured as the 'Best Teacher' in 2002 .

After retirement, he joined active politics. As a senior congress leader, Gogoi was elected as a Member of the Teok Kaliapani AP (Kaliapani Anchalik Panchayat). Subsequently, he remained the president of Kaliapani Anchalik Panchayat from 2013 till 2018.

Gogoi was actively associated with various organizations. He was the president of the teachers' unit of Sivasagar Zila ME school, vice-president of Sivasagar Zila ME Teachers' Unit Coordination Committee, working president of Khanamukh Anchalik Karmachari Parishad, and also the president of Khanamukh Anchalik Sankardev Kala Krishti Kendra, Khanamukh Anchalik Krira Parishad, as well as adviser of the Khanamukh Sakha Xahitya Xabha and many other organizations.
