Noted senior citizen and social worker of Tangla town, Upendra Chandra Deka left for his heavenly abode due to old-age ailments in his house on July 3. He was 89. Born in Barowati of Nagaon in 1934, he served the Army for one year from 1961 to 1962 and rendered service in various places including the Indo-China border in the present-day Arunachal Pradesh. He later joined the Post & Telegraph department. He was an ardent follower of Srimanta Sankardev's 'Ekasarana Dharma'. He was also associated with a number of socio-religious organisations and institutions in the greater Tangla area. His demise has been widely mourned by a number of organizations and institutions including Udalguri west chapter of AKRSU, Tangla regional unit of AASU, Tangla Media Circle, Tangla Media Forum among others.
