OIL launches Project Disha for career counselling and mental wellbeing of students

Guwahati: The Oil India Limited, as a part of its continuing effort to promote education in its rural areas, has launched Project Disha through which it seeks to improve mental wellbeing of students and provide them with apt and timely career counselling.

This career counselling programme by the OIL can be counted as a multipronged approach towards career selection which involves assessments, one-to-one career counselling along with also providing an exposure on possible career pathways to the students. The career counselling sessions will be done in presence of students, parents & teachers. Moreover, the career assessments will be done in the Assamese language in the vernacular schools.

Project Disha aims at providing a direction and meaning to career-related decisions of the student through the scientifically proven approach and planning of resources. The objective of the project would be to gather all relevant information such as career goals, interest level, feasibility, examines the student’s current status. For this, it identifies a strategy that shows how the student can meet their respective goals.

Oil has also associated with MIND India, Institute of Positive Mental Health and Research, a Guwahati based organization that works for positive mental health and for solving other issues of children, adolescents and young people. As targeted, this project will be launched in 40 schools primarily across Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Charaideo, Duliajan & Moran where there are approximately 3500 to 4500 nos. of students of class 10 from Vernacular & English medium schools.

The three phases in which this project will be implemented are:

(i) Administration of Career Planning Assessment

(ii) Individual one to one Career Counselling with the students based on the career planning assessment

(iii) Group Career Talk will be held with the parents and students after completion of the career assessment and counselling.

The launch program was attended by Shri B P Sarma, Resident Chief Executive, OIL, Shri Pranjit Deka, ED (HR &A), OIL, Shri Dilip K Bhuyan, GM-Public Affairs and other senior officials of Oil India Ltd who also addressed the students and teachers across various schools of OIL operational areas.
