TINSUKIA: After several rounds of tripartite discussions, the Oil India Limited (OIL) finally agreed to pay Rs 50,000 each to 612 affected families of Baghjan to meet the cost of alternative accommodations. They families were rendered homeless in the wake of the BGR 5 blowout and subsequent fire. The meetings were held between Baghjan Gaon Milan Jyoti Sangha, Tinsukia district administration and OIL.
Diganta Saikia, the Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia, told this correspondent that out of 612 families, the amount had been already transferred to 547 families in two phases while some technical problems cropped up in respect of bank details of 65 persons who would get the money once the bank formalities were over. He also refuted the allegation as reported by a section of media that the district administration did not transfer the amount to the bank accounts of the affected families though OIL released the amount to Tinsukia district administration.
Meanwhile, OIL in press release on Thursday stated that only one relief camp in Guijan High School was in operation while second phase of assessment for compensation in Baghjan area was in progress with re-survey of damage assessment being carried out in Tinsukia circle. A total of 2,756 families, both in Doomdooma and Tinsukia circles, have been surveyed till date.
