DIBRUGARH: The Frontier Basin Project of Oil India Ltd (OIL), which was set up in order to accelerate the Company's exploration, especially in frontier ranking exploratory acreages, spudded Well SDYA-1 under Block No: AA-ON N-2010/3 (awarded under NELP-IX) at Sadiya, Tinsukia district on February 3 this year.

The well is located between 2 No Bishnupur Borgohain and 01 No Bishnupur Pahukhuwa Gaon under Sadiya on the north-eastern bank of the mighty River Brahmaputra. The spudding ceremony was graced by MLA, Sadiya Bolin Chetia, DC Tinsukia, Narsingh Pawar, SP, Sadiya District Police, Mohan Lall Meena, RCE, OIL Prasanta Borkakoty, ED (BM_A&AA), Susma Rawat, and officials from M/S BRPL and ONGCL. This ultra-deep well with a target depth of 6450 metres is planned to be drilled in two phases. This will be the deepest well to be drilled in Northeast India. This is the second well to be spudded by Frontier Basin Project next to Thenzawl, Well No MZ-8 which was spudded on 25.07.2019 in Mizoram.
