Omicron suspect admitted to TMCH in Sonitpur district

RANGAPARA: A sensation prevailed among the people of the greater Balipara-Rangapara area under Chardwar Police Station in Sonitpur district after Surya Tamang, a resident of the area tested COVID positive after nine days of his reaching home from abroad. The 36-year-old youth who was at a job in the Middle East Country Qatar for a long time, came back to his native land India and after landing at Mumbai airport (Chattrapati Shivaji International airport) and then Delhi airport, reached his Balipara residence on December 4 last.

Sonitpur DC Bhupesh Chandra Das told this correspondent that since he reached home he was in home quarantine and in between he tested negative in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) which was followed by RTPCR test in which he was tested positive and under the initiative of Balipara PHC admitted at TMCH on Saturday evening.

Bhupesh Chandra Das also said that he is under observation and his sample has been sent to genome sequencing to ascertain whether he contracted the new Omicron variant of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, in a tweet, state Health Minister Keshab Mahanta also said that he is positive for COVID-19 and his sample has been sent to genome sequencing. "Till the results arrive for the same, it is a sincere request to all concerned not to spread the matter as an OMICRON case," he said in the tweet.
