MANGALDAI: Darrang district administration allegedly failed to ensure the safety and security of the grassroots level essential public service providers in this hour of emergency as a group of miscreants on Thursday committed an organized physical attack on a team of on-duty linemen under Mangaldai Electrical Sub Division (MESD) at village Mowamari near here.

As per the FIR lodged by the SDO, MESD, a group of miscreants, identified as Gopal Sarkar, Jyoti Sarkar, Pankaj Sarkar and Ranjan Sarkar, equipped with sharp weapons attacked

the MESD staff, namely Samadul Haque alias Mani, Ranjit Kalita and Kali Das when they had rushed to the village at around 9.30 pm to attend to an LT complaint. The power supply workers, who are known to the consumers for their dedicated services, even risked their lives during this flood situation and thus sustained injuries. A case has been registered at Mangaldai Police Station vide No. 230/2022 u/s 353/324/34 IPC). However, no arrest has been made till the filing of this report.

Darrang Superintendent of Police Raj Mohan Ray meanwhile, has assured to take it seriously. A delegation of Mangaldai chapter of All Assam Power Supply Workers' Union met the higher officials of APDCL, Mangaldai and expressed their decision to stop any service to the Mowamari area till the accused are punished under the provisions of the law and the safety and security of the on-duty emergency public servants is assured.
