On Indian Constitution Day, stress laid on establishing social justice

LAKHIMPUR: Along with the rest of the county, the 5th Constitution Day, also known as Samvidhan Divas, was observed under the auspices of the District Legal Service Authority, Lakhimpur on Tuesday commemorating the adoption of the Constitution of India. on November 26, 1949, by the Constituent Assembly of India. Notably, the Constitution Day was first celebrated four years ago in 2015 as a mark of tribute to Dr. Bhim Rao Ramji Ambedkar, the first law minister of India, who played a pivotal role in the framing of the Indian Constitution.

On this occasion, the District Legal Service Authority organized a special programme under the management of its secretary Bichitra Dutta in a befitting manner at the conference hall of the District Judiciary. The programme began with the lighting of ceremonial lamps by Lakhimpur District Chief Judicial Magistrate Narayan Kuri who attended the programme as the chief guest. Secretary Bichitra Dutta explained the objectives of the event and read out the preamble to the Constitution of India. She administered the oath to protect and promote the very ideals of the Constitution.

Chief guest Narayan Kuri explained the significance of the Constitution Day in his lecture. He said that the lofty ideals of the Constitution of India had focused on the glory and dignity of the democracy of the nation since it came into force. “Though the Constitution has been amended several times, the very soul of it has remained the same. No extraneous forces can change it,” he said while appealing to all to protect the ideals of the Constitution.

Attending the program as a guest of honour, journalist-writer Ranjit Kakati opined that there was still a lot to do in order to establish social justice in the society, which the Constitution of India aims. “On the basis of the ideology of the preamble to the Constitution, we must reinforce our obligation to establish social justice, ideals of secularism, economic balance, peace, harmony, and integration. It is time to take our pledge to launch our endeavors to uphold these ideals and transform them into reality in our society,” he further added.

Senior PLV and social activist Abu Sayeed Khan, journalist and working president of Lakhimpur District Journalist Association, Kumud Baruah and professor Badan Kalita also delivered speeches in the programme. A galaxy of prominent citizens of Lakhimpur along with the advocates of the North Lakhimpur Bar Association and the employees of the District Judiciary were present in the programme.

Tezpur: Constitution Day was observed by District Legal Services Authority, Sonitpur, Tezpur at the premises of the District and Sessions Judge, Sonitpur. The day was observed by conjointly reading out the Preamble by all the Judicial Officers, members of Tezpur Bar Association and Tezpur Advocates’ Association along with the staff of DLSA, Sonitpur. The objective and significance of the day were briefly stated by Achma Rahman, Secretary, DLSA, Sonitpur, Tezpur, and Biswanath. The Preamble was read out by Romen Baruah, Additional District, and Sessions Judge, FTC, Sonitpur, which was recited by the gathering.

After the reading of the Preamble, two awareness programmes regarding the provisions of the Constitution of India with special reference to the fundamental duties as enshrined in Chapter IV A (Article 51A) of the Constitution of India were organized at the office of the District Legal Services Authority, Sonitpur, and Rangapara Higher Secondary School in Sonitpur district.
