GUWAHATI: In an unfortunate incident following the gusty winds along with heavy rain in Assam, a man died in the Golaghat district after being crushed by a tree.

The incident took place on Friday 25 March in the Kamarbandha area in the Golaghat district of Assam where heavy rain was witnessed earlier on Friday, i.e. March 25.

The deceased man has been identified as Hem Bora, a resident of Gosaigaon in Golaghat. Bora was on the Titabar-Golaghat Highway at the time of the incident.

According to sources, the deceased on Friday was taking shelter beneath a giant Banyan tree due to heavy rain and continuous thunderstorm.

But unfortunately, the tree was uprooted following the gusty winds and it suddenly fell upon Bora while he was taking shelter which resulted in his death on spot.

It may be mentioned that different parts of Assam have been witnessing heavy rain and gusty winds throughout this week causing extreme harm to some areas.

Following the weather condition many houses, shops and other establishments have been damaged by uprooting the trees in parts of the state.

On Friday 25 March, winds blowing at 40-50 kilometre per hour (kmph) lashed various regions of Golaghat and parts of Assam during the afternoon hours.

However, there is no sign of the situation getting improved in the state because according to the IMD (Indian Meteorological Department) weather forecast Assam will experience similar weather conditions for the upcoming two days.

Earlier, just one week ago the state has been experiencing extremely hot and dry weather conditions therefore the rainy weather was assumed as a sign of relief but the rain accompanying terrific wind storms has brought destruction in many areas across Assam.
