GUWAHATI: The police of Sontipur in Assam has arrested one person and seized 1kg 400 grams fake gold Biscuits on Friday.

The Sonitpur police informed on Twitter informed, "Continuing our drive against fake gold seller's rackets, today a team of Sonitpur Police led by SI Bhargab Borbora, I/C Borghat OP and the team conducted another successful operation at Napam market under Tezpur PS and recovered four fake gold biscuits weighing approximately".

The person who was arrested was identified as Kitab Ali.

"1kg 400gm from the possession of one Kitab Ali, S/O Alal Ali, R/O – Vill – Kurkani, PS – Tezpur. Further investigation is going on to find out other members of this racket".

Earlier a team of 27 Battalion SSB, Howly under the direction of Abhishek Anand, Commandant, seized two Tokay Geckos and arrested the smugglers on the spot while undertaking a joint operation with forest officials.

The operation was conducted under Bhunyapara forest range on Thursday in Manas Reserve Forest. The place where the operation took place is 6 km away from the Indo-Bhutan border under district Baksa. Tokay Gecko was listed in Schedule 4 of India's Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.

Two residents of Baksa under Simla Police Station were apprehended red-handed in the illegal trade of the protected species. They were searching for customers to sell the tokay geckos. One gecko is 25 inches long and another one is 17 inches long. The tokay geckos along with apprehended persons were handed over to the Range Officer Bhunyapara for further legal action.
