One killed in road accident near AASU office at Naharkatia

NAHARKATIA: One person died in a road accident near the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) office at Naharkatia on Wednesday.

The deceased was later identified as Deepak Khanikar (50), resident of 1 no. Long Jong village, Naharkatia. According to eye witness, Khanikar died on the spot when a speeding dumper bearing registration number NL-03-A-8459, driven by Bikash Lahon (37) of Tengakhat, hit him. The irate locals apprehended Bikash Lahon and he was later handed over to police. Deepak's family members lodged an FIR at Naharkatia Police Station. The police registered a case no.156/2020 under section 279/304(a)/427 IPC. Deepak Khanikar was a former employee of Assam Rifles.
