One killed in road mishap; road blockade by local people staged

BONGAIGAON: One person was killed in a road accident which led to road blockade by local people. The incident took place on NH-31 at Dangaigaon in Bongaigaon district where a speeding truck hit a person riding a cycle, Prasad Das (38). As per sources, Das was going to his house from Siyalmari area of Chirang when the accident occurred. Das died on the spot while the truck fled from spot.

After this incident, the local people of the area along with All Minorities Students' Union, Bijni committee staged protest at the accident spot and blocked the national highway. The people demanded necessary action to prevent such frequent accidents.

Later, a high official from the district administration arrived at the spot and requested the public to clear the NH. But the people denied and finally he ordered for baton charge. After this the national highway was cleared.
