One person killed in hailstorm at Dibrugarh; ex-gratia given

DIBRUGARH: One person was killed in a massive hailstorm that hit Dibrugarh on Tuesday evening. The deceased has been identified as Sukeswar Gogoi, resident of Moran.

Gogoi was killed after branches of a big tree uprooted by strong wind fell on him. According to an official, ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh was given to the next of kin of his family.

“West revenue circle, Moran, Tingkong, Dibrugarh east were most affected due to the hailstorm. The West revenue circle was mostly affected. Many big trees were uprooted and electric poles were damaged. Our assessment is going on,” said an official of ASDMA.

According to reports, many houses were damaged partially due to the massive hailstorm that hit Dibrugarh on Tuesday evening. Meanwhile, officials reached the affected areas to take stock of the situation.
