DIGBOI: Braving the inclement weather, team AOD Digboi Refinery participated in an onsite disaster mock drill conducted here recently at Atmospheric Vacuum Unit (AVU)-a vital unit of Digboi Refinery. The action plan was carried out in order to assess the response and readiness of the disaster management team during an emergency.
The activities of the drill unfolded as per approved Emergency Response and Disaster Management Plan (ERDMP) of Digboi Refinery and the emergency response teams took over their positions to control the artificially created alarming situation. Two technical experts from PNGRB empanelled party were also pressed into service to observe the drill for the re-certification of the ERDMP of Digboi Refinery. The scenario envisaged for the drill was of heavy Naphtha leakage from 01-VV-002 bottom 6” vessel body flange joint of reflux pump suction line causing vapour cloud in the area and leading to mammoth fire.
In the debriefing session that followed subsequently with SS John, the Executive Director (AOD) Digboi in the chair, various aspects of the episodes were discussed at length while scopes for improvement and quick and effective combating without human casualty or damage to property were made the nuclei of the session.
