Open Bwisagu celebration held along Indo-Bhutan border

KOKRAJHAR: Amidst the apprehension of a second wave of COVID-19, people from all walks of life took part enthusiastically in Rongjali Bwisagu/Rongali Bihu celebration. An open Rongjali Bwisagu/Rongali Bihu function was held on the beautiful hilly terrain at Saralpara along the Indo-Bhutan border on Saturday to foster peace and brotherhood among different sections of people living together.

Saralpara is a hotspot for picnickers in Kokrajhar because of its natural beauty. People have to pass through the thick jungles of Ultapani which have rich flora and fauna and wild elephants. Sarphang of Bhutan is attached to Saralpara but it has not been opened for tourists due to COVID-19.

The open Bwisagu celebration near Indo-Bhutan border was organized at the behest of Maninswar Daimary, social activist and advisor of All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU). Cultural troupes of various communities took part in the grant cultural event and the beating of traditional musical instruments like Kham, Sifung, Sherja, Jotha rent the air along the Bhutan border.

Among the dignitaries present on the occasion were Bodoland Territorial Council Assembly Speaker Katiram Boro, Executive Member Daobaisa Boro, former general secretary of ABSU (All Bodo Students' Union) and UPPL (United People's Party Liberal) candidate for 30-Kokrajhar East, Lawrence Islary and other local leaders.
