Over 200 families from BJP and Gana Shakti join Congress in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: In view of forthcoming assembly election, the Lakhimpur District Congress Committee (LDCC) has continued its political activities in order to strengthen the organizational base of the party.

As a part of such activities, the LDCC organized a special joining programme on Sunday at Ghunasuti under Lakhimpur Legislative Assembly Constituency. In the programme, Ghunasuti Anchalik Panchayat Member Rina Taid joined the Congress quitting the BJP in the presence of LDCC president Dr. Joy Prakash Das. In the same event, over 200 families living under Ghunasuti Gaon Panchayat also joined the Congress from the BJP and Sanmilita Gana Shakti Asom. The LDCC president welcomed the newcomers to the Congress and appealed to them to work for removing the BJP from power in the next assembly poll.

On the other hand, the LDCC, led by president Dr. Joy Prakash Das celebrated Kati Bihu at Ghunasuti on Saturday by lighting the earthen lamp in the paddy field and following the due tradition. The people of the area extended warm welcome to the LDCC president and the party dignitaries on the occasion. Dr. Das gave words to the people of Ghunasuti that he would leave no stone unturned to resolve the flood and erosion problem and other burning issues of the Gaon Panchayat.
