Flood affects 128 villages in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: Due to heavy downpour in the past few days in the State of Arunachal Pradesh, the water level of the River Subansiri started to overflow in the catchment area of the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project (SLHP), being constructed by NHPC Limited at Gerukamukh.

It resulted in rolling of overflowing water over the main dam of the project again since Tuesday night creating havoc in the downstream area of the River Subansiri. However, the rolling of water ceased around 12:00 pm on Wednesday. Notably, overflowing water from the catchment area of SLHP rolled over the main dam of the project from June 17 to June 24.

On the other hand, NEEPCO has been releasing the additional water in the catchment area of the Ranganadi Hydro Electric Project (RHEP) since Wednesday morning. The Dam Gate 5 was opened by 200mm at the time of filing this report.

The present wave of flash flood has inundated a total of 128 revenue villages under 7 Revenue Circles (RCs) of the district. Flood has affected 54 villages in Bihpuria RC, 3 villages in Dhakuakhana RC, 8 villages in Kadam RC, 42 villages in Narayanpur RC, 7 villages North Lakhimpur RC, 6 villages in Naoboicha RC and 8 villages in Subansiri RC.
