SILCHAR: An early morning fatal accident in the heart of the town once again brought forth the utter negligence of the traffic branch of Silchar police.

Kingen Kangmei, a contractual housekeeping staff of Silchar NIT, died on the spot after a truck, in a bid to overtake another vehicle, hit the bicycle Kangnei was riding. The incident happened on Monday at around 8 am at a busy and congested Rangirkhari-Sonai Road point.

The tragic accident triggered mass protest against the traffic police and the irate public blocked the road. They alleged that traffic police was solely responsible for the death of the youth. There is always traffic congestion at Sonai Road and Rangirkhari area during school timings but no traffic control can be seen. Further, how could a truck or heavy vehicle enter the main road, they asked.

Later, Additional Police Super Subrata Sen came and somehow pacified the public. The body was sent for post mortem.
